An innovative and sustainable project
The Road to Smart Tourism
Since 2017, Alcobendas has worked to boost its tourism activity, highlighting business tourism and MICE thanks to its solid industrial fabric, with more than 16,000 economic activities, being the second city the Community of Madrid by volume of installed headquarters of large companies. In total, 821, of which 679 are multinationals. It is the second city in Spain in terms of business turnover, with 18 companies with revenues in excess of 1,000 million euros.
This effort is complemented by its rich cultural and sports offer. In 2019, it began its transformation as a Smart Tourism Destination, aligning itself with the DTI methodology.
Since then, it has implemented an ambitious Tourism Action Plan, consolidated in 2022 with Next Generation funds, to modernize infrastructures and digital solutions, achieving a more innovative, accessible and sustainable tourism.
How the project came about
Main Needs
This project was born as a natural step within the innovation and digitalization strategy of Alcobendas, following the DTI methodology.
Its main objective is to modernize and digitize the tourist offer to adapt to the demands of new tourists, offering more complete, accessible and attractive experiences.
It also seeks to provide quality information, unify the tourist resources of the municipality and generate interest for future visits, while implementing a tourism intelligence system that facilitates decision-making based on real data.

Alcobendas is implementing a transformative project that will benefit various stakeholders: tourists and visitors, local tourism businesses, public entities and the destination managers themselves, as well as the residents themselves.

In addition, Alcobendas will gain a deeper, data-driven understanding of its tourism reality, allowing for more accurate strategic decisions.
All this with the aim of positioning the municipality as a benchmark in the segments of Business Tourism and MICE, Cultural and Sports.
